A woman in Saudi Arabia has died in a car crash as she was learning how to drive. This has occurred less than a week after it was announced that the country is lifting the ban on female drivers.
The incident took place in Jeddah, near the Red Sea, reportedly during the woman's first driving lesson, Gulf News reports.
Saudi Arabia's King Salman announced last Tuesday that he will be allowing women to drive from June 2018. Her husband said that the tragic accident happened as the woman was learning to drive in anticipation of the lifting of the ban next week.
The husband had been teaching her how to drive in their local neighbourhood when she suddenly sped forward and crashed into a concrete block.
