Photos: Bollywood actor Salman Khan granted bail after poaching conviction

Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan was on Saturday granted bail by a Rajasthan court after his poaching conviction that saw him bag five years in prison three days ago.

Last Thursday,  the 52-year-old actor was convicted of illegally killing two blackbucks, a protected species of Indian antelope, while shooting a film in Jodhpur city in 1998, and sentenced to five years in prison.

After spending two days in jail, Judge Ravindra Kumar Joshi ordered him to sign a surety bond of 50,000 rupees ($770) following an appeal against the conviction.

The release from the jail in Jodhpur, a town in western India was granted on Saturday afternoon and Khan was taken by police escort to Jodhpur airport as he travelled home.
Following his release, hundreds of Khan's fans celebrated the bail decision outside the courtroom as they chanted "We love you, Salman."
According to AP, four other Bollywood stars accused in the case - Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam were acquitted Thursday by Chief Judicial Magistrate Dev Kumar Khatri. They were in the vehicle that Salman Khan was believed to be driving during the hunt in 1998.

Khan who is not new to crimes faced other charges in the past. In 2014, the Mumbai High Court acquitted him in a drunk-driving, hit-and-run case, after he was accused of running over five men sleeping on a sidewalk in 2002, killing one of them.
